These guides show the contents of two shelter kits and how best to use them to maximise their usefulness and longevity. They were designed to be understood by people with limited literacy levels.
Sector: Social work
CARE International needed quick guides that could be printed on site and distributed with emergency shelter kits in Syria. The kits contained tools and materials to allow people to repair or reinforce existing shelters.
Our design solutions show a visual contents list, and instructions on correct usage of the equipment included. Careful planning and task analysis was required to ensure key points were highlighted, visual references were understood, and information was chunked appropriately in the limited space available.
They were made to be read right to left due to a Arabic speaking majority in the population, and devoid of any words so literacy levels wouldn’t affect reader understanding.
